Does Fluorocarbon Catch More Fish? Why Fluoro Rules!

When shopping for fishing equipment, anglers tend to focus on choosing the best lures to use, but they might not give the fishing line enough attention and buy whatever line is available.

However, the fishing line can have a significant effect on the fishing performance as lines can help catch more fish.

Does Fluorocarbon catch more fish? Fluorocarbon does catch more fish, according to many professional anglers. That is because Fluorocarbon lines are thick and have the ideal amount of flexibility to handle strong strikes from fish. Fluoro is also the least visible in the water, so it will not scare away the fish from biting.

Does Fluorocarbon Catch More Fish?

Fluorocarbon does catch more fish. Engineers have improved fluorocarbon lines’ quality to match the professional anglers’ needs, and modern fluorocarbon lines are what anglers of old have probably dreamt about; The updated lines are softer with more erosion resistance than previous versions.

Fluorocarbon lines enable lures to go where they’re supposed to head because they are thick so they won’t be floating like monolines which can obstruct the movement of many lures.

These lines’ thickness makes them ideal for live bait fishing and vertical presentations like vertical jigging and slip-bobber fishing.

In terms of visibility, fluorocarbon lines are 90% invisible, which is better than mono and braided lines. This means the line won’t be noticeable in the water or spook the fish away from biting.

When Should You Use Fluorocarbon Fishing Lines?

While Fluorocarbon lines have many features, you need to know when is the most suitable fishing situation to use these lines advantage.

You can use Fluorocarbon when you are fishing in clear water because clear water requires low visibility lines with a medium level of stretch. You can learn more about the stretch of Fluorocarbon lines here, by the way.

If you are planning to fish in saltwater during the daytime, Fluorocarbon is an excellent option for you because of its high resistance to sunlight and low water observation.

In general, Fluorocarbon is the best fishing line to use at any time, but in this situation is when you definitely will catch more fish with it in a simple way. You can learn more about why Fluorocarbon line is superior in my comparison of Fluorocarbon to mono lines here.

Can Fish See Fluorocarbon Fishing Lines?

In general, fish can see your fishing line in the water. However, some anglers have been using a bright-colored superline, and they catch a lot of fish.

This may happen in muddy water where the vision underwater is not that clear, or even in clear water, but they will be catching fish with low sight sense.

The Fluorocarbon line has gained a reputation as the most unnoticeable line on the market. Science says that it is supposed to have the same light reflection qualities as water, making it the most invisible fish line.

The Advantages of Fluorocarbon Fishing Lies

Fluorocarbon has many advantages as a fishing line compared to monolines and braid. I am going to tell you the main advantages of Fluorocarbon lines from a pro angler’s point of view.

  • Heaviness – Fluorocarbon lines are obviously heavier by size because the molecules are more closely packed. Its heaviness helps angles to go deeper in fishing, while with monolines, you will find it hard because, most probably, it will float.
  • Invisibility – Compared to monolines and braided lines, Fluorocarbon is the most invisible line.
  • Abrasion resistance – It has more resistance to sunlight and heat damage, is suited for a wide variety of knots, does not absorb water, and its qualities remain the same whether wet or dry.

Does the Fluorocarbon line Have Disadvantages?

While fluorocarbon lines have many advantages, it has some disadvantages as well. The thickness quality isn’t always beneficial in angling conditions.

The main disadvantage of the Fluorocarbon line is that it’s stiff. This makes it difficult to tie and makes Fluorocarbon lines more prone to breaking as well, especially in there’s a heavy load on the line.

Another disadvantage is that it can be difficult to manage for some beginners as Fluoro lines have high memory, which makes them more prone to line twists. It can also be difficult to spool on a reel without having problems with backlash.

Finally, it’s significantly more expensive compared to other kinds of lines; you can buy monolines for half their price.

Conclusion

Fluorocarbon lines are always a good choice to catch more fish, especially northern pike or musky or any fish with good sight sense that live in clear water.

However, if I am fishing in a muddy river where I don’t need a transparency line, I will choose mono or braided lines as it is 50% cheaper.

Generally, Fluorocarbon thrives in clear water, and its limited stretch and higher strength make it my favorite choice for strong hook setups and cover fishing. It’s popular as leader material but not so much as a full-spool material.
